Fractions Setup Guide

1. Introduction

Fractions are very similar to rooms, except that they allow a room to be split into separate units. This is useful when the primary unit is a house, and specific sections (such as upstairs and downstairs) can be rented separately. When one of the fractions is reserved, the other fractions remain available. However, when the entire room is reserved, none of the fractions can be booked.

2. Settings Overview

The settings for fractions are identical to the settings for rooms/units. For more detailed information about the available settings and options, refer to the Rooms/Units user guide.

The only difference when setting up fractions is that instead of selecting a property, you will select the room that the fraction is linked to. Since the room is already linked to a property, there is no need to select the property again. By linking the fraction to the room, it is automatically linked to the property as well.

3. Deleting a Fraction

If you need to delete a fraction, you will find the link to delete the fraction at the bottom of the fraction settings screen.

What are fractions?

Fractions are intended to be used for reserving parts of a room. For example, you have a condo that can be rented as an entire unit, or each floor as individual units. The condo is set up as a “room” and the individual units are set up as “fractions” of that “room.” The screen for adding rooms is almost identical to this one.

I have rent a house that can be rented out as either four separate suites, or as an entire unit. How should I configure my account to best handle this?

You should add the house as a room. You then should add four fractions to that room. One fraction will represent each of the four suites that the house is comprised of.

I manage a inn with 8 rooms, as well as a vacation rental house where each floor can be rented individually, or the entire house can be rented. How should I set up my account to handle these units?

You should setup two properties. One property should be for your bed and breakfast. Under that property he will add all the rooms in your bed and breakfast. Your other property should be set up for your vacation rental. Under that the property he will add one room, which will represent the entire house. Under that room you will then add two fractions, each of which represents one section of the house.

Can I add more than one photo to my fraction?

You can add as many photos as you want. The photo added to the primary photo section is what will appear with your fraction description.

How does the parent unit appear on availability calendars when the parent unit’s fraction is reserved?

When the parent unit’s fraction is reserved, the parent unit will show as unavailable. If the parent unit is a reserved, all fractions will show has unavailable. If just one fraction is reserved, the remaining fractions will show as available. For example, if the upstairs fraction is reserved, the downstairs fraction will still show has available, while the entire house will show has unavailable.
